<image:caption>Free for the first time in decades to worship openly, Shiite Muslim pilgrims crawl into the shrine of Imam Husayn, a Shiite martyr from the seventh-century, in Karbala, Iraq. Powerless under Saddam and predominately poor, the Shiites of Iraq now find themselves major players on the world stage often at odds with the world's only remaining superpower. Making up over 65 percent of Iraq's population the success or failure of the United States' occupation of Iraq rests squarely on the shoulders of this previously marginalized group of people.</image:caption>

Kaszynski works for the private military company Crucible providing security for U.S. State Department contractors in Afghanistan. Kaszynski's decision to work as a private security contractor was based upon a combination of a feeling of patriotic duty, a desire for action, and the ability to make a lot of money. Kaszynski was able to make more than double his police salary. Kaszynski was killed on December 22, 2005, just a few weeks after this photo was taken, while working for Crucible in Iraq. Kaszynski had been transferred from Afghanistan only a few weeks before his death. The U.S. endeavor in both Afghanistan and Iraq relies heavily on the services these hired guns provide.</image:caption>

Based at the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Northern Kenya, the privately funded anti-poaching unit has received permission from the Kenyan government to shoot to kill. Most of the members of the anti-poaching unit are from the famed Maasai warrior tribe and have received military training. The anti-poaching unit consists of three four man groups that patrol the park and it's surrounding areas in search of poachers and their traps. If they see a poacher carrying a weapon anywhere within the park or the vast areas surrounding the park they shoot to kill. Poaching has dropped significantly since they started their operations.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Children work under the watchful eye of their supervisor at a pottery factory in in Cairo, Egypt. Children as young as five years-old work in Cairo's pottery "factories", which are often nothing more than mud-brick hovels. Some of the children work with family members as a way to help the family business. They work long hours in horrible working conditions but they are able to spend time with their fathers, uncles, brothers and sisters. These are the lucky ones. Other children are sent by their parents to work in the factories as a way to add to the household income. These children do not work with people who love them, but rather, they work for supervisors who are often cruel, threatening them with violence if they do not work fast enough.</image:caption>

Old tires, dried sugar cane husks, and plastics are burned to fire the clay goods in large kilns at the pottery factory. Many of the workers are concerned about breathing in the toxic smoke. The bedouin live in a makeshift squatter camp near a garbage dump on the outskirts of Sharm El Sheikh. A seven year drought has forced the bedouin down from their traditional mountain homes. Discrimination by Egyptian business owners and operators in Sharm El Sheikh leave the Bedouin no jobs and little to no income. The Bedouin have resorted to sifting through the garbage thrown out by tourists to feed themselves and their livestock.</image:caption>
